Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. - And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Luke 4:1 - For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Heb. 2:18 - For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15 2. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. - And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. Ex. 34:28 - After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. Num. 14:34 - And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God. 1 Kings 19:8 3. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. - Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? Gen. 3:1 - And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Matt. 27:40 - For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain. 1 Thess. 3:5 4. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. - And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. Deut. 8:3 - For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it. Deut. 32:47 - And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. Rev. 1:16 5. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, - And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities. Neh. 11:1 - For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name. Isa. 48:2 - And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Matt. 27:53 6. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. - He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. Ps. 34:20 - For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. Ps. 91:11 - They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Ps. 91:12 7. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. - And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? Ex. 17:7 - Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. Deut. 6:16 - And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Ps. 78:18 8. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; - And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, Deut. 34:1 - For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matt. 16:26 - Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15 9. And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. - Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. John 14:30 - And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Rev. 19:10 - Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. Rev. 22:9 10. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. - Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Ex. 20:3 - But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Matt. 16:23 - Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 1 Pet. 5:9 11. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. - And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. Luke 4:13 - And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. Luke 22:43 - And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. Heb. 1:6 12. Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; - Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, Mark 1:14 - Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison. Luke 3:20 - And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. Luke 4:14 13. And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: - And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. Mark 2:1 - And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? Mark 9:33 - And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. John 6:17 14. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, - Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Matt. 1:22 - And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Matt. 2:15 - That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. Matt. 8:17 15. The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; - And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah. Josh. 20:7 - And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammothdor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities. Josh. 21:32 - Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. Isa. 9:1 16. The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. - The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Isa. 9:2 - To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. Isa. 42:7 - To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke 1:79 17. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. - And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matt. 3:2 - John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Mark 1:4 - And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:47 18. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. - And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there. Matt. 15:29 - Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; John 1:35 - One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. John 1:40 19. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. - Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Matt. 13:47 - And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him. Mark 2:14 - And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. Luke 5:10 20. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. - And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him. 1 Kings 19:21 - He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matt. 10:37 - Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. Mark 10:28 21. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. - Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Matt. 10:2 - And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, Matt. 17:1 - Then came to him the mother of Zebedees children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. Matt. 20:20 22. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. - Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant. Deut. 33:9 - He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matt. 10:37 - And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him. Mark 1:20 23. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. - The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; Isa. 61:1 - And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Matt. 9:35 - And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee. Luke 4:44 24. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. - And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. Matt. 8:6 - Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. Matt. 12:22 - Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. Matt. 17:15 25. And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. - But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea, Mark 3:7 - And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel. Mark 5:20 - And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; Luke 6:17 |
