When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: - Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. Mic. 2:1 - And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate. Mark 15:1 - And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, Luke 22:66 2. And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. - And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Matt. 20:19 - And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. Luke 23:1 - Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. John 18:28 3. Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, - And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. Matt. 26:15 - And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; John 13:2 - For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Cor. 7:10 4. Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. - And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. Gen. 42:21 - And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. - Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God. Deut. 23:18 - For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. Isa. 61:8 - Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. Matt. 23:24 7. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. - And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people. 2 Kings 23:6 - And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. - And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still. 2 Sam. 20:12 - So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. Matt. 28:15 - And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. Acts 1:19 9. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; - If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned. Ex. 21:32 - Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall make a singular vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by thy estimation. Lev. 27:2 - And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. Zech. 11:12 10. And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me. - Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Jer. 18:2 - And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. Jer. 32:9 - And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. - Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Matt. 2:2 - Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Matt. 26:64 - I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 1 Tim. 6:13 12. And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. - But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. Ps. 38:13 - He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Isa. 53:7 - But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Matt. 26:63 13. Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? - And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? Matt. 26:62 - Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? John 18:35 - And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove. Acts 25:7 14. And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. - I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge. Ps. 71:7 - Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing. Luke 23:9 - And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. John 19:9 15. Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. - But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people. Matt. 26:5 - But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound. Acts 24:27 - But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me? Acts 25:9 16. And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. - And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. Mark 15:7 - And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will. Luke 23:25 - But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; Acts 3:14 17. Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? - And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. Lev. 16:7 - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Josh. 24:15 - And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 1 Kings 18:21 18. For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. - And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying. When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. - Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. Luke 23:47 - When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. John 19:13 - But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; Acts 3:14 20. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. - But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. Mark 15:11 - And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. Acts 14:19 - And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. Acts 19:28 21. The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. - Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? Matt. 27:17 - But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; Acts 3:14 - What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness? 1 Cor. 4:21 22. Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. - His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. Deut. 21:23 - Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD? 2 Sam. 21:3 - Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Gal. 3:13 23. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. - For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. 1 Sam. 20:31 - Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isa. 53:12 - And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live. Acts 22:22 24. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. - And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley: Deut. 21:6 - I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O LORD: Ps. 26:6 - Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. Matt. 27:4 25. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. - Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; Ex. 20:5 - And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. Josh. 2:19 - Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. Acts 5:28 26. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. - And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. - Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. John 18:28 - Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? John 18:33 - I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall. Acts 23:35 28. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. - And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not. Ex. 28:35 - And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, Mark 15:17 - And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. Luke 23:11 29. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! - And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD. Ex. 28:38 - He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Isa. 53:3 - And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Matt. 20:19 30. And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. - I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. Isa. 50:6 - Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. Mic. 5:1 - Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, Matt. 26:67 31. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. - And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, - And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. Luke 23:44 - And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: John 19:17 - Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Heb. 13:12 34. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. - They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. - They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. Ps. 22:18 - Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. John 19:23 - They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. John 19:24 36. And sitting down they watched him there; - Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. Matt. 27:54 - And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Acts 12:4 - And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him. Acts 28:16 37. And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. - And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. John 19:19 - This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. John 19:20 - Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. John 19:21 38. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, - I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads. Ps. 109:25 - All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, Ps. 22:7 - Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger. Lam. 1:12 40. And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. - And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Matt. 4:6 - And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. Matt. 26:61 - Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. John 2:19 41. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, - Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, Matt. 26:67 - For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: Luke 18:32 - Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves? Luke 22:52 42. He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. - And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Matt. 27:37 - Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. John 1:49 - Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. John 12:13 43. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. - He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. Ps. 22:8 - And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matt. 3:17 - Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? John 10:36 44. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. - But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not: Ps. 35:15 - And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. Luke 23:39 - But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? Luke 23:40 45. Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. - And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: Amos 8:9 - And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. Mark 15:25 - And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. Luke 23:44 46. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? - My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? Ps. 22:1 - Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. - Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: Mal. 4:5 - And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Matt. 17:3 - And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? Matt. 17:10 50. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. - And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Luke 23:46 - When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. - From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Matt. 16:21 - And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
