1. For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.

- Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: Matt. 13:24

- The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, Matt. 22:2

- Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. Matt. 25:1

2. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

- Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. Matt. 22:19

- And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Luke 10:35

- And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. Rev. 6:6

3. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

- Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. Prov. 19:15

- But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, Matt. 11:16

- And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 1 Tim. 5:13

4. And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.

- In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Gen. 3:19

- Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. Col. 4:1

- For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 2 Thess. 3:10

5. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.

- Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. John 4:6

- Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. Acts 3:1

- On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: Acts 10:9

6. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

- Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. Ezek. 16:49

7. They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.

- Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Eccles. 9:10

- Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. Matt. 22:9

- So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. Luke 14:21

8. So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

- Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning. Lev. 19:13

- Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates: Deut. 24:14

- And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Luke 12:42

9. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.

- And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. Matt. 20:2

- For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. 1 Tim. 5:18

- Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. James 5:4

10. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.

- Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it. Eccles. 8:17

- But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first. Matt. 19:30

- And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. Luke 13:30

11. And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,

- And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? Ex. 15:24

- And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: Luke 15:29

- These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. Jude 1:16

12. Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

- Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God. Isa. 58:2

- And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Rom. 11:6

- That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: Eph. 3:6

13. But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

- That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? Gen. 18:25

- And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Matt. 22:12

- What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. Rom. 9:14

14. Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.

- And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. Luke 15:31

- As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. John 17:2

- Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Rom. 3:19

15. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

- Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee. Deut. 15:9

- But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Matt. 6:23

- Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: Mark 7:22

16. So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

- Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Matt. 11:11

- But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first. Matt. 19:30

- And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. Luke 13:30

17. And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,

- And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; Gen. 18:17

- He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Matt. 13:11

- And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, Mark 10:32

18. Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,

- From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Matt. 16:21

- And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: Matt. 17:22

- What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. Matt. 26:66

19. And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

- Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. Matt. 27:26

- He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Matt. 28:6

- Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Acts 2:23

20. Then came to him the mother of Zebedees children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

- And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. Matt. 4:21

- And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. Matt. 8:2

- Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children. Matt. 27:56

21. And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

- In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. 1 Kings 3:5

- Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom. Est. 5:3

- And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matt. 19:28

22. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

- For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it. Jer. 49:12

- And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Matt. 26:39

- Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? John 18:11

23. And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

- And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. Acts 12:2

- To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. Rev. 3:21

- And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Rev. 20:4

24. And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.

- Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Phil. 2:3

- But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. James 3:14

- Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Pet. 5:5

25. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

- And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down. Dan. 5:19

- Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men. Matt. 2:16

- And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. Luke 2:1

26. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

- And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. Mark 9:35

- But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: Mark 10:43

- Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 1 Pet. 5:3

27. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

- Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 18:4

- But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. Luke 22:26

- After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. John 13:5

28. Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

- For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 2 Cor. 8:9

- But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Phil. 2:7

- Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Titus 2:14

29. And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.

- So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. Josh. 6:20

- And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. Mark 10:46

- And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: Luke 18:35

30. And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.

- And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us. Matt. 9:27

- And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. Matt. 21:9

- Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. Matt. 22:42

31. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.

- Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. Matt. 19:13

- Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; Col. 4:2

- Pray without ceasing. 1 Thess. 5:17

32. And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?

- Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. Ezek. 36:37

- And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. Matt. 20:21

- Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Phil. 4:6

33. They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

- Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. Ps. 119:18

- To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. Isa. 42:7

- The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Eph. 1:18

34. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

- And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God. Luke 18:43

- To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:18

- For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15
