1. And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;

- And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: Matt. 7:28

- And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again. Mark 10:1

- And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. John 10:40

2. And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

- And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Matt. 4:23

- And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Matt. 9:35

3. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

- Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. Mal. 2:14

- But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. Matt. 5:32

- The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. Matt. 16:1

4. And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

- So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Gen. 1:27

- And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Gen. 2:18

- Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. Gen. 5:2

5. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

- And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; Gen. 2:21

- Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Gen. 2:24

- What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 1 Cor. 6:16

6. Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

- Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. Mal. 2:14

- For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. Rom. 7:2

- And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: 1 Cor. 7:10

7. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

- When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. Deut. 24:1

- Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away. Isa. 50:1

- It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: Matt. 5:31

8. He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

- Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Gen. 2:24

- Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: Ps. 95:8

- Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. Zech. 7:12

9. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

- But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. Matt. 5:32

- And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: 1 Cor. 7:10

- The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. 1 Cor. 7:39

10. His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.

- And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Gen. 2:18

- Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. Prov. 18:22

- Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 1 Tim. 4:3

11. But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

- He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Matt. 13:11

- Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 1 Cor. 7:2

- But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches. 1 Cor. 7:17

12. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

- And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. Isa. 39:7

- Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. Isa. 56:3

- But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: 1 Cor. 7:32

13. Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

- And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them. Gen. 48:9

- And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young. 1 Sam. 1:24

- And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. Matt. 20:31

14. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

- And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 18:3

- But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Luke 18:16

- Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. 1 Cor. 14:20

15. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

- He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Isa. 40:11

- And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. Mark 10:16

- Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. Acts 6:6

16. And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

- And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? Luke 3:10

- That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:15

- And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? Acts 16:30

17. And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

- Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. Lev. 18:5

- For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. Rom. 10:5

- And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Gal. 3:12

18. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

- Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: Matt. 5:21

- Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: Matt. 5:27

- For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Rom. 13:9

19. Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

- Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Ex. 20:12

- Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the LORD. Lev. 19:18

- If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: James 2:8

20. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

- And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: Luke 15:29

- The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. Luke 18:11

- Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. Phil. 3:6

21. Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

- Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5:48

- Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Mark 10:21

- And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. Acts 2:45

22. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

- And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. Ezek. 33:31

- No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matt. 6:24

- For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Cor. 7:10

23. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

- He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. Matt. 13:22

- And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! Mark 10:24

- But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 1 Tim. 6:9

24. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

- Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. Ps. 62:10

- He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. Matt. 13:22

- But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 1 Tim. 6:9

25. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

- And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. Mark 13:20

- Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. Luke 13:24

- Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. Rom. 11:5

26. But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

- Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Gen. 18:14

- I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Job 42:2

- For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37

27. Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

- And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. Matt. 4:20

- And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. Matt. 9:9

- So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:33

28. And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

- When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: Matt. 25:31

- Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 1 Cor. 6:2

- To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. Rev. 3:21

29. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

- Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Matt. 25:34

- But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. Mark 10:30

- And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Luke 18:29

30. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

- But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. Mark 10:31

- But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. Luke 14:10

- I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Luke 18:14
