Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, - Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Acts 2:9 - These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Heb. 11:13 - James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. James 1:1 2. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. - By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: Rom. 1:5 - For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Rom. 8:29 - And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things that that of Abel. Heb. 12:24 3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, - Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Eph. 1:3 - Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Pet. 1:23 4. To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, - And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. - And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Rom. 13:11 - Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Phil. 1:6 - So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Heb. 9:28 6. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Cor. 10:13 - My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; James 1:2 - But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 1 Pet. 5:10 7. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: - The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts. Prov. 17:3 - Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 1 Cor. 3:13 - Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 1 Pet. 4:12 8. Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: - And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; - Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Luke 12:35 - Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thess. 5:6 - So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Heb. 9:28 14. As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: - And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Acts 17:30 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2 - Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Eph. 2:2 15. But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; - Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5:48 - Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Cor. 7:1 - Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Heb. 12:14 16. Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. - For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Lev. 11:44 - Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. Lev. 19:2 - Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. Lev. 20:7 17. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: - Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts. 2 Chron. 19:7 - Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Phil. 2:12 - Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: Heb. 12:28 18. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; - (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) Ps. 49:8 - For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Cor. 6:20 - Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Titus 2:14 19. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: - The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John 1:29 - How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, - Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, Rom. 16:25 - According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Eph. 1:4 - Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: Col. 1:26 21. Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. - Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. Acts 2:24 - The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. Acts 3:13 - But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Heb. 2:9 22. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: - Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Rom. 12:10 - Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 1 Tim. 1:5 - Let brotherly love continue. Heb. 13:1 23. John 1:13 - Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. James 1:18 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Pet. 1:3 24. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: - My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass. Ps. 102:11 - As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. Ps. 103:15 - The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: Isa. 40:6 25. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. - For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Ps. 119:89 - The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isa. 40:8 - For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matt. 5:18 |
